To Install a Webcam

Important: Install your webcam from the CD/download BEFORE plugging in your webcam! DO NOT plug in your webcam until promped! Otherwise, you may have to repeat the installation.

  1. Insert the Installation CD. If you do not have a CD, and if you are comfortable installing software manually, you can quickly download the installation package at our Downloads page. Once the file downloads, unzip it and double-click the file in the folder titled "Setup.exe."

  2. An installation wizard will prompt you through installing the software on the computer.

  3. You may receive a popup telling you that the software you are trying to install is "unsigned" and warn you that it could make your system unstable. The installation is completely safe and you do not need to stop - tell it to "Continue." You may also get a "System Properties" popup with buttons for the Device Manager, Drivers and Hardware Profiles - click "OK" to close the window.

  4. The wizard will tell you the software is finished installing.

  5. Plug in your webcam to the computer. Your computer will automatically detect the webcam and prompt you with bubble popups in the lower right, by your clock.
Note: If the bubble tells you "Your new hardware is installed and ready to use," skip to step 8.

  6. The "Found New Hardware Wizard" may appear. It will ask you if you want to connect to Windows Update to search for software. Select "No, Not this Time" and click Next. Then, tell the wizard to "Install the software automatically (Recommended.)" This may take a few moments.

  7. When your computer tells you that your new hardware is installed and ready to use, test your webcam by double-clicking the "AMCAP" program and opening the sliding door on your webcam. If your webcam is installed correctly, you should see yourself!
