Using Your Scanner

Basic Scanning

  1. Place your document face-down on the scanner glass and push the "Scan" button on the top of your scanner.

  2. The "Lexmark All-in-One Center" will open on your computer and will display a preview of the document on your scanner.

  3. Click the "Scan Now" button on the right in the All-in-One Center.

  4. The "Lexmark Photo Editor" will open.  Go to File > Save As... and save your image.  Save the scan where you will be able to find it and give it a simple filename.  Be sure the file type is ".jpg" or ".jpeg."

How to Insert Multiple Scans to a Word Document

  1. AFTER scanning your documents, Open Microsoft Word.

  2. Go to the Insert Menu > Picture > From File

  3. Navigate to your image, then click "Insert."  Your image will appear in the Word Document.

  4. Repeat steps 2 & 3 for additional scans.
Note: If your Word document becomes too large to submit through Moodle (over 10 MB,) right-click on one of your inserted images, Show the Picture Toolbar, and select the "Compress Pictures" button (square image with arrows at the four corners.)  Select "All Pictures in Document" and "Web/Screen," then "OK."  Save the Word document and try to send again.  If it is still too large, you can submit it to your teacher through PALCSmail.

Advanced Scanning Tips and Tricks

  • If pushing the "Scan" button on your scanner does not bring up the All-in-One Center, you can alternately open the All-in-One Center by going to Start > All Programs > Lexmark Series > All-in-One Center.

  • In the All-in-One Center, after your image is "Previewed" (what appears on your screen after you push the "Scan" button on your scanner,) you can change the options in the "Scan..." box, to the right (near the "Scan Now" button.)

  • You can change the "Send scanned image to:" box from the Lexmark Photo Editor (default) to "- File."  Doing so will skip opening the Lexmark Photo Editor and save your scan directly to your computer.

  • Clicking "See More Scan Settings" in the "Scan..." box will enable you to change the scan quality.  72 dpi, as marked, is good for viewing on a computer monitor or web page -- which is how you will submit your assignment to your teacher.  This setting can make your assignment easier for your teacher to see.  Note, for the "What is being scanned?" question, even if you are not scanning a photo, you should leave it set as "Color Photo."

  • If you scan to the Lexmark Photo Editor, you can rotate your image by clicking "Rotate Right" or "Rotate Left" in the Lexmark Photo Editor before saving.  This is helpful if you have a horizontal document instead of a vertical document.
