Q. I can't log on to the Internet - I am getting a screen with that says "Computer Support, Inc." and it is asking for a password. What is it?
A. That is our Internet Filterpak.
The username is student
The password is login (both lower case)
Check the box that says "Save Password" to keep from entering it every time you access the Internet, then click "Login."
Q. Why is the Filterpak so restrictive? What is the override password? I can't get to my e-mail / online banking site / favorite game / music download site.
A. By law, we are required to block websites and services which can contain ANY inappropriate material or security risks - spam, spyware, questionable advertisements, etc. This means we have to block many popular websites. However, the school computer is to be used primarily for school work, not for business or pleasure.
The filter cannot be overridden. If you try to disable the filter, it will disable all Internet access and require repairs - please do not attempt to override or disable the filter. Our filter is admittedly not perfect and should not substitute for Home Facilitator monitoring, but if you have a site you think should be unblocked, or a site that SHOULD be blocked and is missed by the filter, please contact Mr. Don Reiher at x1110.
Finally, you CAN use POP3-based e-mail - e-mail addresses you use through Outlook Express.
Q. Why do I get a “page cannot be displayed” error when I try to go anywhere?
A. Double check ALL connections (power to modem, modem to computer) and make sure everything is turned on. Then turn everything off and turn it back on again. If you have any screen asking for a password, try username student and password login. If it is still not working, your Internet Service Provider may be having trouble. Call your ISP.
Q. My printer is out of ink. Will you send me a replacement?
A. We provide ONE ink cartridge per student per school year. Please call the Help Desk at 1-877-PALCS-TLC with your printer type (ex: Lexmark X5270; Lexmark X3350) and if you need black or color. |
