The PA Department of Education has announced that Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School has mastered the State’s Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) designation for the very first time!  PALCS is one of only four Pennsylvania cyber charter schools to ever make AYP.

What does this mean? In order to make “AYP,” PALCS students must score proficient on this year’s PSSA tests or have improved significantly from the previous year.  Our school is also graded on participated in the state testing and last year’s graduation rates.  Because of our size, we must prove proficiency or significant progress in 25 different categories.  This school wide AYP designation confers a strong sense of accomplishment to our faculty and staff who have worked tirelessly this year to enable our students to excel.

Great things are happening at PALCS as we look forward to this next school year.  The new theme chosen by our teachers and staff for the 2010-2011 school year is:

Every Child, Every Chance, Every Day. It’s the PALCS way!

Our continued focus will be on student achievement as we begin our seventh year of partnering with parents to help our students reach their fullest potential.  Over the past six years, PALCS has made a significant investment to develop what we believe is a world class curriculum and Internet delivery system.

Beginning in September, we are pleased to announce that we have improved our internal instructional system through an improved grade level team approach.  This new emphasis will enable us to enhance communication and collaboration between the PALCS faculty and staff and to better improve and track student progress and achievement.

There are now six teams:

  • Elementary (K-5)
  • Middle School (6-8)
  • Ninth Grade
  • Tenth Grade
  • Eleventh Grade
  • Twelfth Grade

Each team has regular education teachers across the subject disciplines, special education teachers, Federal Title Tutors, ESL teachers, guidance counselors, academic advisors and support staff.  Each team is led by a Grade Level Coordinator (GLC) who will serve as the administrator for that team.

In addition to Grade Level Coordinators, we continue our highly successful Content Area Specialists in the subject areas of English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Foreign Language, Business/Technology, Art, Music and Physical Education.  The Content Area Specialists will ensure that all our coursework continues to provide all subjects a high school student would want to master and that our curriculum covers all Pennsylvania State Standards through teacher-designed lessons.

Our faculty and staff look forward to the opportunity to serve you with these new innovations and hope that we can continue to build on our previous year’s successes.
