Leaders In Action

Did you know that recent research suggests that many young people like you today are very aware of the challenges facing our world, and that the majority of them want to find ways to help out and make a difference? What they sometimes lack is a way to get started and other people and friends with whom to collaborate.
Not anymore! Our Leaders in Action program helps you with a very supportive structure, teacher/mentors, and many new friends to take initiative and action on real-world issues and problems in your community, and “learn by doing” what it means to be a young leader that can make a difference.
Leaders in Action is for 9th and 10th grade students, and it focuses on “servant leadership” through the implementation of a service learning project you get to choose. Like our innovative Young Leaders Program, the program combines a powerful and fun residential retreat (three days) for you and twenty-five other students, followed by an online curriculum that focuses on learning about leaders and leadership, online chats and progress updates, and the direct implementation of your service-learning project. This kind of learning is fun and practical!
If you are a young leader in our Leaders-In-Action Program, you will:
- Choose a service-learning project that is of great interest to you and adds value to your community, church, school, or the global society.
- Learn how to identify a community need, or work with an existing service organization, and put together a project plan to get it done.
- Experience a high-energy, fun three-day residential retreat where you will learn about leadership traits and character development through powerful leadership simulations and team-based experiential challenges.
- Make many new friends who want to collaborate with you on their project or support you in your project.
- Learn about powerful and effective leaders in Pennsylvania history and model what they did to make real change happen but apply these examples in your own way.
- Receive high school credit for the volunteer work that contributes to your community.
- Build your resume with real service leadership experience, and make yourself eligible for the National Honor Society, two factors that can greatly influence your college applications or job applications.
