Chinese Exchange Program

½ credit - Spring

The China exchange program consists of a three week stay in China while experiencing daily culture and high school classes. Each student will stay with a host family, and attend a Chinese High School for a full immersion experience as a Chinese teenager.  Students will also learn global leadership skills.

 

Included in this trip is a visit to the Great Wall, and The Forbidden City in Bejing. The PALCS Chinese Program is based in Shijiazhuang, Hebei, PR China. Course work consists of this immersion experience and Moodle lessons designed to encourage interaction with Chinese pen pals. 

 

Please contact the Leadership Center for information regarding student eligibility and participation. While in China, PALCS students are expected to stay current with PALCS courses via the Internet. The cost of this program is approximately $2000.00. 

 

This course may be used as an elective towards achieving the Student Leadership Certificate.

Panama - Spanish Program

The Panama-Spanish Program focuses on developing students as global citizens through an immersion in the Panamanian culture and Spanish language.  Students will learn global leadership skills in completing leadership activities working with the "poorest of the poor." 

 

The program’s main location is in the internationally famous Central American mountain town of Boquete, in western Panama near the border of Costa Rica.

 

Some activities included in this trip are:

  • Visit a Ngobe Bugle Indian reservation in Panama and work on a project to improve their lives
  • Service a previously installed water purification system
  • Develop a mime skit into a coloring book in three languages
  • Implement an education rally in the town square connecting indigenous, English and Spanish-speaking people to promote education
  • Participate in team building and leadership activities and reflections

Canada - French Program

Non-Credited Travel - Spring

Our French in Canada Program is open to both students and parents. On this exciting extended field trip, we will:

 

  • Journey by van with teachers and students across the border and along the majestic Saint Lawrence River to historic Quebec City 
  • Room together in a quaint hostel where we will utilize French language skills to accomplish fun team building activities. 
  • Participate in French lessons (3 hours per day)
  • Accelerate the mastery of the French language and build confidence for more advanced French language training in North America or abroad

 

Please contact the Leadership Center for information regarding student eligibility and participation. The cost of this program is approximately $600.00. 

 

This experience may be used as an elective towards achieving the Student Leadership Certificate.

Disney Travel and Learn Experience

½ credit - Fall

In this half credit course, students will be immersed in a variety of curriculum-based scientific, cultural, creative and technological activities.  Students will participate in an array of learning opportunities that will prepare them for the travel portion of the course at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. 

 

Topics to be covered include, but are not limited to:

  • Physics – Energy and Waves
  • Dynamics of Technology
  • World Cultures
  • Teambuilding
  • Conservation
