China - Mandarin Program Travel - Spring  

The China program consists of a month living in China while taking daily language and culture lessons. Each student will stay with a host Chinese family, living as a Chinese teenager. While in China, students are expected to stay current with PALCS courses via the Internet. The PALCS Chinese program is based in Shijiazhuang, Hebei, PR China. Course work consists of two hours a day of Mandarin language studies with an individual tutor, plus an hour each day of Chinese culture, history, customs, art, tai chi, calligraphy, games and cooking. When students return, Chinese lessons continue in an online format for the rest of the semester. Panama - Spanish Program 1/2 credit - Spring  

The Panama program focuses on developing students as global citizens through a full engagement, "immersion experience" in the Panamanian culture, the Spanish language, and service leadership activities working with the "poorest of the poor".

The program’s main location is in the internationally famous Central American mountain town of Boquete, in western Panama near the border of Costa Rica. Here, students will:

  • Immerse in the Spanish language with professional grade instructors

  • Visit a Ngobe Bugle Indian reservation in Panama and work on a project to improve their lives

  • Service a previously installed water purification system

  • Develop a mime skit into a coloring book in three languages

  • Implement an education rally in the town square connecting indigenous, English and Spanish-speaking people to promote education

  • Continue PALCS high school studies via the Internet

  • Participate in team building and leadership activities and reflections

Canada - French Program Travel - Spring  

Our French in Canada Program is open to both students and parents. On this exciting extended field trip, we will:

  • Journey by van with teachers and students across the border and along the majestic Saint Lawrence River to historic Quebec City
  • Live with French Canadian families and practice French language skills day and night
  • Learn French (3 hours per day) from a world-class language school renowned for the quality of its language instruction and experiential field excursions into Quebec City.
  • Accelerate the mastery of the French language and build confidence for more advanced French language training in North America or abroad
  • Have the opportunity to work with our PALCS teachers and the Quebec language instructors to develop a game plan to prepare you for Advanced Placement (AP) exams in French

Disney Travel and Learn Experience 1/2 credit - Fall  

In this half credit course students will be immersed in a variety of curriculum-based scientific, cultural, creative, and technological activities. Students will participate in an array of learning opportunities that will prepare them for the travel portion of the course at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.

Topics to be covered include, but are not limited to:

  • Physics- Energy and Waves
  • Dynamics of Technology
  • World Cultures
  • Teambuilding
  • Conservation
